The building represents the beginning of a partnership between Shaikh Ebrahim Center for Culture & Research and Gulf House Engineering. A fruitful collaboration that has resulted in the rescue of many dilapidated heritage buildings in Muharraq old area from demolition.

A 100-year old building with a total area of 320 sq.m opened in November 2003 and extended to the east in 2009. The house was restored to conserve the memory of the place by dedicating it to Bahrain’s press heritage, being the house of the founder of the first weekly newspaper in Bahrain and the Gulf.

The renovation embodies a sensitive approach in dealing with a house which had been subject to deterioration, disfigurement, and alteration which resulted in the loss of its authenticity. It was restored by adapting the building to new functions and modern requirements without losing its traditional characters.
