Located in the heart of Manama city, facing the famous Bab Al Bahrain, this renewal project revitalizes the culturally significant gateway to the old souq and transforms it to a hive of contemporary commercial and social activities.

The project’s overriding features grow from the site based on comprehensive analysis of the dilapidated conditions, inefficient land use, disfigurement of buildings, inadequate circulation networks, and the visual pollution of signage. Therefore, the approach is multi-faceted including: restoration of the heritage valuable part that houses the first Police Station and Post Office, demolition of the altered deteriorated part and rebuilding it in a way complementary to the old restored one, rehabilitation of the opposite disfigured facades and pedestrianization of Bab Al Bahrain avenue.

The project exemplifies the process of transforming dilapidated heritage areas by injecting vitality and prosperity. The Project is envisaged to form a snowball of conservation initiatives that will filter into the rest of the Manama Souq area.
