Located in close proximity to the rehabilitated Al Zayed house, the task was to renovate a building in a condition of extreme deterioration and disfigurement due to the lack of maintenance and shabby alterations.
The building was restored its original state by employing a combination of integrated solutions including restoring heritage parts, removing inappropriate additions, rebuilding missing parts and keeping the existing two palm trees in the courtyard, a tree of symbolic heritage value. In addition to physical improvements, the building was functionally converted to preserve the dying and unique Bahraini art of Kurar embroidery.
The building provides a venue for elderly Bahraini ladies to practice the art of the Kurar and to pass the skills to the younger generations. The house consists of 2-storey occupying 378 sq.m and represents an excellent example of the courtyard houses of Muharraq.
