World Record for Bahrain

(Micropiles & Micropiled Post Tensioned Reinforced Cement Concrete Raft Foundation)

Gulf House Engineering W.L.L. (GHE) has completed the World's Largest Micropiled PT Raft foundation which lies on an Artesian Aquifer located within the reclaimed island in the Kingdom of Bahrain (Madinat Salman Housing Project), for which the specialist contractor (Strong Force-MGC W.L.L.) has been awarded the YII2021 Certificate of Excellence from Bentley Systems.

Gulf House Engineering (GHE) is pleased to be the innovative consultant in the Kingdom of Bahrain to adopt Micropiles and Micropiled Post Tensioned Reinforced Cement Concrete Raft Foundation (PT Raft) as an alternative system and structural foundation.

The PT Raft foundation is a cost-effective standalone system able to adequately transfer the superstructure loads to the supporting ground. However, when the soil conditions are unfavorable (problematic soils, shallow aquifer, etc.), or the stresses, deformations, and differential settlements violate the permissible limits, micropiles are added.

Moreover, direct injection micropiles are known for their low disturbance, fast installation rate, better site access, and higher unit skin friction compared to other piling systems, among other advantages.

How does the Micropiled PT Raft system behave?

The main objective of Micropiles in Micropiled Rafts is to act as settlement reducers and share the loads with the Raft. Therefore, the micropiles are strategically distributed below the raft as required. This process is being done using high-end, calibrated, and state-of-the-art design methods with the soil-structure interactions taken under consideration. Hence, the outcome is an adequate and cost-effective foundation system.
